A PEEK at our ACADEMIC WEEK

Religion: Stations of the cross and what can we find on the altar (ambo, tabernacle, altar, candles)

Language Arts

Reading : We are amping up our reading fluency by rereading and focusing literary language.  Students are noticing playful and inventive words authors use in writing especially in poems.  We will begin selecting our poems next week in class to recite in the poem contest.  I will send home a copy of the poem as soon as your child makes their selection.

Spelling: Students have their new words in their planners. They will take their spelling test on Friday.  A reminder that some students remain in the same spelling sort in order to master the pattern.

Grammar: Plurals   Review:  Irregular Verbs, Past tense, adjectives, nouns, and verbs

Writing:  We begin our opinion writing.  We will choose a favorite character this week and write a class letter to our future first graders.

Math: Students are working hard on adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping.  We begin to look at fractions (1/3, 1/2,2/3,1/4) and measurement using inches and centimeters.

Science: Rocks/Erosion/Weathering… We continue to observe our jar of rocks and water. We shake our rocks every other day to see what will happen to the rocks as we continue to shake the jar.  What will happen?

Social Studies: We continue with  our unit on People in Time and Place.  Vocabulary: pioneer, ancestor, custom, artifact, and communication
