Dear Second Grade Parents,

We have only 4 days of learning this week.  We will be very busy  taking advantage of every minute of our day getting ready for third grade!  First Communion pictures have arrived.  I will send them home tomorrow.  We will start our Memorial Day weekend on Friday.  There will also be no school on Monday, May 27th.

A Peek at our Academic Week:

Homework:  I will only send Reading Log this week.  On Wednesday, I will send an interview your student must do with someone who is old enough to answer the questions.  They may interview an aunt, uncle, grandparent, parent, etc.  This will be due next Wednesday.  They will use this interview to write about the person they interviewed.   Blue Folders will go home on Thursday this week.

RELIGION: On Tuesday, our school will have the Living Rosary at 11:10 a.m.  Please come if you can attend. Please send your child with a rosary for tomorrow. They will keep the rosary for the rest of the week.  We continue studying different parts of the mass.

LANGUAGE ARTS: vowel pairs in phonics (oo; moon ew; jewel ou; coupon ue; statue).  creative writing; word attack; vocabulary development; dictionary work and cursive handwriting ( v, f, s and review all the other letters

SPELLING UNIT 33:  long e sound spelled with y as in happy and penny.  Study for test on Thursday.   spellingcity.com

READING: We will be reading, “The Art Lesson” by Tomie DePaola. Our comprehension focus will be author’s viewpoint.  Children will be able to explain that the author based the story on his own childhood experiences.  We will also be reading, Eight Daughter’s and Family Garden to reinforce our phonics lesson, fluency and comprehension.

MATH: Time will be one of our focuses this week with digital and analog clock.  Our other focus areas will be adding and subtracting three digit numbers!!!!  We keep working really hard in this area because third grade will start with four digit numbers.  We are still working on centimeters, meters, feet and yards.

Social Studies: Looking at Timelines

Science: Rocks/Minerals

**********We will be going on our field trip to Underwood Farms next Wednesday.  Please be sure to turn in your child’s permission slip along with the fee by  this Thursday.***********

Blessings,

Mrs. Vazquez
