Dear Second Grade Families,
This is our last week of the first trimester. I can’t believe we will begin conferences in a few weeks.
A little reminder, Teddy Bear Day is around the corner. Donate a Bear on “Teddy Bear Day” for Adopt-a-Family on Monday December 2nd.(If you are out and about shopping these next few days, remember to purchase a teddy bear.) You may send in the teddy bear with the tag on as soon as you have purchased the teddy bear. This will remind and encourage others to do the same.
Flat Students: We continue receiving Flat mail but not all students have received a letter. If your child has not received mail, please contact your child’s flat host to encourage them to send a letter to your child.

Homework: Fluency/IXL/Reading Log
Religion: We will begin Chapter 6. We will learn of the first three commandments. We will begin to write a Thanksgiving Prayer.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Reading: Last week, the students enjoyed reading a few fables. We will begin “Chinatown” and discuss details and main idea.
We will finish our read aloud “The Boy with the Helium Head.” We will begin our classroom read aloud, “The Boxcar Children”. We are working on vocabulary and comprehension through visualization and student discussions. If you have a copy of “The Boxcar Children” you may send it to school with your child so they may follow along.
Spelling: We will review the last few units this week. We will not have a spelling test this week. We will begin chapter 13 when we return from our Thanksgiving vacation. We will review short/long vowels, syllables with double consonants, spelling patterns.
MATH: We will begin unit 3 this week. We will review place value in 2-digit and 3 digit numbers. We will review coin values and exchanges among coins. Your child must be able to recognize coins and value. If your child still has difficulty please practice at home.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We will read “Changes in America” and “Changes for American Indians.”
We will begin the ABC’s of the First Thanksgiving…The students will present this to their buddies next Wednesday. J
SCIENCE: We will wrap up the Animal Life Cycle this week. We will take our science test on Thursday.

Wednesday: Free Dress $1.00 or MORE for Philippines.
Friday: Noon Dismissal
