Second Grade Families,

Happy New Year!  I hope you all enjoyed your family and friends during this special season.  I would like to thank all of you for the special cards, well wishes and gifts.

Take a Peek at Our Week:

Homework:   READING LOG, Fluency Spelling City (Unit 16 assignments)

Language Arts:

Reading:  We will wrap up any loose ends from our last week of school reading activities. We will be reading, A Trip to the Fire House, and leveled reading chapter books.    Prediction will be our strategy focus.  Our skill focus will be inferences.

Writing:  We will write our second to last letter to our Flat Host this week.  We will continue writing narratives.

Spelling:  Unit 16:  words with long i such as why, light and high.  Spelling Test will be on Friday.

Math: Unit 4 on Everyday Math  We will work on parts and totals.  We will also beginning rounding to the nearest 10 along with ball park estimation (rounding) with addition.  Example:  23+39=     BallPark Estimation will be 60 (20+40=60).

Religion: We will begin Unit 3. Goal:  The students will be grateful for God’s loving mercy in giving us the gift of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Science: Earth Science: Observing different soils.
