Second Grade Families,

Parent’s day was FANTASTIC!!!  It was so much fun watching you play games with your child.  This week we continue celebrating Catholics School’s Week with faculty/staff appreciation day on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, your child will have lunch (hamburger) provided by Ms. Benner. It is also a free dress day.  We look forward to an exciting week.

A Look at our Week:

The highlight for our second graders continues to be handwriting.  We have worked on a, i, l, t, c, e and loosing up our hand with cursive exercises. This week we will connect letters and review all the letters we have learned.  I will introduce the letter 0.

HOMEWORK: Reading Log, Fluency & IXL (S.1 & K.3), spelling city assignments for unit 19

RELIGION: Practice the Act of Contrition.  We will be focusing on how Jesus Leads Us to His Peace. We continue to examine our conscience by reflecting on the Ten Commandments.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Reading:  We will conclude Big Bushy Mustache.  We will begin a new story Jamaica Louise James, a realistic fiction selection.  Our focus is to evaluate, reading for fluency, and comprehension.  We will also continue our read aloud, Boxcar Children (Book 1).

Spelling/: UNIT 19 plurals: adding an –es if the word ends with an –x, -ch, -ss and -sh  We will take our spelling test this full day Friday. J

ABC Order; Dictionary Work; Word families.

Writing:  We will begin information writing (How To ..).

MATH: We will take our Math Test on Thursday.  We need a little more practice on two-digit addition and reviewing ballpark estimation.  We will begin Unit 5 on Thursday.

SCIENCE:  Learning about different types of rocks and different soils.

SOCIAL STUDIES: How we Use our Land

1/28:   Wednesday:  Student Appreciation Day!   Lunch will be provided by    Ms. Benner for all students.  No Homework! (SHH! Don’t tell your child since I will be telling them on Wednesday.)

1/29   Parish Appreciation Day!

1/30    Friday:  Full Day!
