Third grade families,

I hope you are all having a fantastic start to your week.

Jog-a-thon was great! THANK YOU to all who donated money and volunteered. Your help and generosity is what made our day such a success.

Wednesday, May 31st, third grade will be off on another GREAT field trip to the Chumash Indian Museum in Thousand Oaks. Permission slips were sent home today in your child’s homework folder. Please make sure permission slips are signed and turned in by May 24th.

A peek into our week…

Math: We are close to finishing up Unit 9, focusing on a new multiplication strategy, Lattice Method. We will also begin finding the products of two-digit numbers.

IXL Homework:

Reading: In Reader’s Workshop we begin our third bend of synthesizing, comparing and contrasting. We will also focus on the importance of asking questions and growing big ideas while we read.

Word Work: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner. Our next spelling test is scheduled for this Friday.

Please make sure students are taking time to read at home and recording their minutes into their reading logs.

Writer’s Workshop: We begin talking and learning about organizing and categorizing our opinion writing pieces. Also, making sure we prove by showing by providing evidence in our writing.

Grammar: We wrap up with Unit 4, Lesson 33: Negatives.

Social Studies: This week we start Unit 4, Lesson 4 on Local Government in California

Religion:  This week we wrap up Ch.11 and will begin discussing how we, the children of God, are a light to the world. We will have our religion quiz next week.

Have a wonderful week,

Miss Poindexter
