Today was our first full day of the school year, and it was full!  The students now have all of their textbooks and we have officially begun to delve into each of our subject areas.

We are happy to welcome 4 new students this year!  A big welcome to David Dunham, Valerie Garcia, Nicholas Maulhardt, and Merhavia Villarreal.  I know the Sacred Heart families will make them feel at home.

Math homework  this year is accelerated math.  It is to be completed everyday Monday through Thursday. Also, PLEASE continue to work with your children on their multiplication facts. In fourth grade we have 25 spelling words.  I will give a pretest on Thursdays and if all 25 words are spelled correctly, the student does not need to take the Friday test. A lot of emphasis is placed on vocabulary because it greatly improves comprehension.  Please check planners and homework folders for vocabulary words and make sure your child is spending time becoming familiar with the various vocabulary.  It is much better to spend 15 minutes a day reviewing words than to spend 3 hours the evening before a quiz.

I have a lot of information to share and look forward to meeting with you next Wednesday, August 31st at 7pm for Back-to-School night.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments you may have.

This is a wonderful group of children and I am blessed to be their fourth grade teacher!

Mrs. Sharon Redmond
