What a weekend of blessings it was! Sacred Heart Church’s 50th anniversary celebration, the canonization of Mother Teresa, and Labor Day! There is more to come this week, as we have our pictures taken tomorrow (Picture Day) and then celebrate Grandparents and Special Friends Day this Friday morning. Guests are welcome to join us at Mass at 8:30, followed by refreshments and then classroom visits. Dismissal will be at noon. Work packet folders are coming home today; students should keep all corrected work at home, but return the folder to school.th

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We have finished Chapter 1, and continue with chapter 2. We have spoken about Mother Teresa, and we are also trying to learn the names of the 7 Sacraments.

Math: We continue our study of geometry, focusing this week on circles. Students need to complete ixL Math skills W 1, W 2 and W 3 by next Monday.

Reading Workshop: We are reading every day in school; please initial the reading log for any reading that is done at home (20-30 minutes every evening). Students use a new reading log each week. Click here for a copy of the reading log. ReadingLog

Reading Fluency: Students should complete fluency homework #3. This will be due next Monday.

Writer’s Workshop: We have begun our first unit, in which we will be writing a piece of realistic fiction. At this point we are working on making our characters believable, seeing them as people with wants and desires and challenges

Spelling: We are learning the words in Unit three, but will not have a test until next week. The words are written in the planner, and we are working on the book pages in class each day.

Vocabulary: We begin our study of Unit 2 words; the test will be next week.

Grammar: We continue our study of sentences, focusing on simple subjects and simple predicates.

Social Studies: We have finished reading issue #1 of Studies Weekly, and the students will be introduced to the website (studiesweekly.com), which they will have access to for reading articles, accessing support media, playing games and taking tests. We will have a quiz on the first issue on Thursday.

Science: Last Thursday we set up a terrarium with nonliving and living components, and we will be making observations about the health of our living components in the coming days as we continue to learn about living things in ecosystems.

Thanking you for your support,
