Dear Kindergarten Families,

We worked through our first full week of school and off to another. One exception, this Friday is a noon dismissal. With a long Labor Day weekend ahead!!

When we return Tuesday from our restful weekend, picture day is on Wednesday (9/6) and Grandparent’s Day is Friday (9/8).  Grandparent’s Day has an opportunity to earn service hours – flyer in red school envelope.

Please add your child’s name to sweaters, lunch box kits and water bottles. It is important to get belongings to each student. If your child brought home a blue pull over sweater without a tag,  it belongs to a Kinder classmate.

Your students need a snack and a water bottle each day and of course a lunch. If you are ordering hot lunch, make sure you get the confirmation that order is placed. Confirmation comes in less that 5 minutes, so you know for sure your child has lunch that next day. It is best to tell your child they are having hot lunch, otherwise they get confused if there is just a snack in their lunch kit.

EDC: if your child is attending most all days, please resend me an email or come in class and check off the days you will be needing aftercare.  I have a clipboard inside the room in the second cupboard as you walk in class, cupboard door is labeled EDC on the “sun”.

Academics:

Religion continues with Creation and first chapter in our Religion book. Everyday we talk about the wonders of God’s creation, the love of Jesus and showing kindness to others.

ELA: our main focus is alphabet letter recognition and sight words, “I,  see, a,  the” as we read sight word readers and put together sentences. Letter and number formation is another daily exercise for our paper work. We are writing/drawing each day the corresponding letter for the day.

Math: recognizing numbers and measurement, graphing, counting up to 20 and counting down from 10. Our daily routine finds us using place value as we count the days in school and days left in school.

Social studies has us looking at Labor Day and occupations.

Science will find us looking at seasons of the year.

I am starting to put together service hour opportunities when at home. I am starting with one family at the beginning of our class list and one family at the end of our list and should meet in the middle. The on campus service hour calendar is on the way. Please note: Mrs. Benner welcomes parents/family members to help at lunch recess. One hour 11:30 to 12:30 any day, just call.

Any questions or concerns – please send me an email.

Blessings to your family,

Mrs. Carol Brown
