Dear Kindergarten Families,

There is a lot of knowledge, skills, and abilities going on here at Sacred Heart! Our School Fair is Wednesday night at 6:00. Your Kindergarten students have been working hard to present their learning about animals in the Polar Regions. Come and visit all the grade level exhibits and projects.

This week are learning:

Our Hands are Good – they are gifts from God and we are to learn how to help people as Jesus did. New Testament reading from the Children’s Bible – and preparing for Lent.

ELA – The last few weeks, most of our reading has been non-fiction books. We are using our Reading Workshop strategies to help us learn from pictures, sound out words, find words in a snap, re-read for better understanding, and retelling facts we learn.

We have been spelling lists 1-5 sight words. A bit of spelling practice with word families from phonics learning is part of our weekly work. Practice tests to learn words and correctly form lower case letters are coming home in the Completed Work folder. At this point not a graded test. Print practice is a major focus – we are working hard on neatness. If needed, it would be helpful to do a little practice at home.

Math –  plane and solid shapes, place value, practice with the number line for addition and subtraction as well as with objects.

Science – our school fair project continues to be our main focus.

Social studies – some interesting facts about the first 20 Presidents.

  • Thursday is our library day – please return books by Wednesday.
  • Friday is a full day of school

Enjoy your week! Hope to see everyone Wednesday evening.

Blessings,

Mrs. Carol Brown
