Dear Kindergarten Families,

I wish to thank all of you for choosing our school. Your students will have a great educational experience here. It was nice to see that many of you were in town and able to join us for orientation on Wednesday.  I enjoyed visiting with your children again! They were polite, inquisitive and quite responsive while I read a story.  I was pleased to observe friendships in the making.

My hopes are your children used the resources from our website to practice kindergarten skills this summer. Please notice I have added additional practice printing sheets. All Sacred Heart students are required to return summer work on the first day of school. I am expecting your children to return the “Summer Reading Log”, “Work Log”, and the “Rainbow letters” for printing both upper and lower case letters. This will be the first graded work for your children-it is important return these four papers next Wednesday.

More school business:

*Before school, children meet in the court area as early as 7:30 — there will be two “K”s chalked on the cement indicating where Kinder boys and girls line up.

*  Please pack your child a small snack each day for our 10:00 recess.

*  After school, I will walk your children out to the planters (by the parking lot) for the car line pick up. If you need to send your child to Extended Day Care (EDC) they will be escorted by the day care leaders which is located downstairs, near the playground area.

*  Our first three days of school dismiss at 12:00. EDC is available on these early dismissal days.  Please pack a lunch if your child will be attending EDC.

*  The week of August 22-26 are full days of school. Dismissal is at 2:45.  Please bring a small bath towel for your child, as we will begin our rest time after lunch starting this week. I will have labeled extra large zip lock bags for their towels. The best size for your children is a regular bath towel – to rest their heads for a 15-20 minutes rest. Please no beach towels or small hand towels.

*  Birthdays are important in Kindergarten and we celebrate during lunch. If you choose to celebrate in class with a treat, my requirements are: healthy food choices! Please no cakes, cupcakes, ice cream, or candy. I feel this is best saved for parties celebrated outside of school. You may bring in veggies, fruits, cheese, crackers, popcorn, muffins, granola bars, etc.

*  Mark you calendars for August 31 at 7p which is “Back to School Night.”

I post weekly on our website — any questions/concerns please send me an email: kindergarten@sacredheartschoolventura.org

This will be a great year!

Mrs. Carol Brown
