Dear Parents,                          February 20, 2018

Here’s what we are doing in first grade…

Language Arts: Within phonics, we will see vowel pairs that do not follow our long vowel sound. This week, we will look at “oo” as in “book”, “cook”, and “look”. In addition, we will also be focusing on compound words – two separate words that are pushed together to make one long word. Examples of compound words are “rainbow”, “butterfly”, “doorbell”. Our spelling words are from Unit 35 and are all about our compound words!

Math: We are still working on Unit 6. We will be reviewing our funky function machine and frames and arrows. We will be learning about quarters and digital clocks.

Science: We will be taking a break from science this week as we focus on traveling for our school fair project!

Social Studies: We will be flying around again this week! Please ask your students where we are traveling!

Religion: We will be reading from our textbooks this week: Chapter 16: Jesus Teaches Us to Love Others.

Homework for the Week:

  • Tuesday: Spelling Book p. 239 & 242 and Math Worksheet
  • Wednesday: 6 Sentences and Math Worksheet
  • Thursday: 6 Sentences and Math Worksheet
  • Friday: Read 2 Times

Reminders for the Week:

  • Library on Wednesday. Please remind your student to bring their library book so they may check out a new one.
  • Stations of the Cross begins on Wednesday at 2pm.
  • Friday is a full-day of school.
  • Next Monday is a noon dismissal as teachers have a deanery staff meeting.

Have a super week!
