Dear Parents,                     February 15, 2016

This week in first grade, we are learning…

Language Arts Our reading strategy this week is predict/infer and the comprehension skill that will help with that strategy is predicting. Taking time to look through what we are going to read, to look at titles or pictures and predict what the story will be about can help us understand the story better. Stop while reading, predict what a character might do or what events might take place – see if you can infer what will happen next or what is most likely to happen. Our phonics focus is the long /a/ sound spelled with the vowel pairs ai or ay, as in sail or day. Our grammar focus is on naming words for one or more than one.

Spelling: Our spelling words are from unit 27 and focus on the ay/ai vowel pair.

Math: We will be working on fact families and strategies to solve subtraction facts.

Religion: We will be discussing Stations of the Cross as well as completing our Virtus Lessons.

Science: In science we will be working on our next environment – mountains!

Social Studies: In social studies we will be continuing our work on our School Fair project!

  • Tuesday: Rainbow Write 2X
  • Wednesday: 7 Sentences (Don’t forget the challenge words) and Math Worksheet
