Dear Parents,                          October 3, 2016

Here’s what we are learning in first grade this week!

Language Arts: We are continuing on with Readers and Writers Workshop. In reading, we will be challenging ourselves as we read with a partner. In writing, we will be focusing on editing our writing by using capitals and end marks! In addition, we will also be focusing on specific phonetic skills. This week, we will be highlighting the sounds associated with the letters k (kangaroo), v (volcano), y (yo-yo), and e (elephant). Our spelling words come from Unit 8. Inside your child’s red homework folder is a polka-dotted envelope- This is our Sight Word Envelope. Please practice these words daily with your child. Each week, your child will be tested for sight recognition and comprehension through the use of the word in a sentence. We will begin testing next week!

Math: We will be wrapping up our second math unit! We will work on number stories and three number addition before we take our test in the middle of the week.

Science: We are learning about animal body parts this week and will be taking a close look at teeth!

Social Studies: We are beginning our second unit. We will begin with vocabulary words and then move into our first lesson on home.

Religion: This week we are learning all the ways God Speaks to Us.
