No school on January 16th as we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King.

The big news of the week is our field trip to Rancho Olivas Adobe on Thursday the 19th. There are still a few permission slips and payments that have not yet been returned. The students should wear clothes that are ok to get dirty, because they will!  Please send a sack lunch and drink because we will have lunch on the grounds of the Adobe.

On Wednesday, I will give the chapter 5 math test.  Our next unit will be the study of measurement.  We will be spending time in the science lab this week making simple and parallel circuits.  This enriches our study of electricity and is always enjoyed by the students.  Most of the children did well on the “verbs” test, and we will continue to discuss the parts of speech as we move on to adjectives.

You might have noticed our anti-bullying posters spread around campus!  Fourth grade has been discussing the Golden Rule.  The emphasis has been on treating others with the same respect you would hope to be given.  We have talked about the damage that can be done with unkind “teasing”, and exclusion.  Please ask your child what they may have learned from these discussions.

Please make sure that your child is spending time reading every day.  The students who read a lot are the students who do well in school.  Now that they have moved from “learning to read,” to “reading to learn,” it is more important than ever to encourage them to read.

Blessings!

Mrs. Sharon Redmond
