This is the time of year when I will frequently stray from our regular academic schedule to make more time for Christmas activities.  I absolutely love this season and all that goes with it!  I feel very blessed to teach in a Catholic school where I can openly pray with the students every day, and to actually celebrate the birth of our Lord and call it Christmas, not “holiday” vacation.

We begin our lenten season by donating soft, cuddly toys for those children not as fortunate as ours.  SHS has a tradition of donating new, lovable stuffed toys as Christmas gifts for children in the LA area.  It always warms my heart to experience the students’ delight at giving to others.  God is good!

On another note, we do have some academic endeavors this week.  A quiz on verbs will be given this Wednesday.  The chapter 4 math test will be Thursday morning. Unit 16 spelling test will be Friday morning.  All students should be studying science and social studies vocabulary every day for homework.  Report cards will go home Tuesday.  Please join us for first Friday mass on December 7th at 8:30.

I look forward to meeting with each of you this week for conferences.  There is 11:30 dismissal on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to allow for conferences.

I ask that you make sure your child has enough downtime in the evenings to read.  Children who read a lot do better in all areas.  Please give them this gift.

Blessings!

Mrs. Sharon Redmond
