Fourth Grade News

Week of January 24th, 2011

I am very pleased with the results of both the English and math tests from last week.  The students are working hard and progressing at a good pace.

This week we begin our unit on measurement.  I always enjoy teaching this because it allows for a lot of great hands-on activity.  We continue to read From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. This week we read to discover what the children find out about the mysterious statue.  The parts of the Mass continue to be our focus for religion.  For the next several days we will focus on the Introductory Rite.  The children have enjoyed learning about electricity and circuits.  This week we will build parallel circuits.  All students are making a poster highlighting different aspects of California geography and culture.  I am sure these are going to be wonderful!  They will be on display at the school fair along with our missions and Gold Rush projects.

A reminder that all books for the next book report (historical fiction) should be completed and at school on or before Wednesday of this week.

Progress reports will be sent home tomorrow.

Our in school Gold Rush presentation has been moved from Feb. 2nd to Feb. 8th.   It will be presented at 9am, Tuesday, February 8th.

We look forward to Mrs. Hoffman’s Harvest of the Month lesson this Thursday.  You can’t beat beets!

Have a blessed week,

Mrs. Sharon Redmond
