Dear Kindergarten Families,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. It is hard to believe this is the 19th week of school! Permission slips will be coming home this week for our field trip to Goleta to observe the Monarch’s wintering over in Ellwood Grove.

* Primary Centers is this Friday.
* Friday is a 12:00 dismissal for a staff meeting.
* No school on Monday, January 17 to observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

*** Renata and Haley turned six last week! This week Grace will be celebrating her sixth birthday!

Religion:
This week we will remember Jesus and His Baptism. Discuss where and how Jesus grew up, what he did as a child and young adult. We will pray the Hail Mary, the Lord’s Prayer. Mass with our fifth grade buddies on Friday.
Language Arts:
We are working on recognizing vowels in every word along with beginning and ending sounds. Ask your child how many vowels are in their name. Look for vowels in words as you read each night. Please keep up the practice with word families and sight words. We are testing number sight words on numbers one through ten. If your child knows these words they will bring home number words eleven through twenty.

Reading for comprehension: we continue with learning to recognize beginning, middle, and end of the story and identifying the main characters.
Math:
Concentrate on number formation, identifying number combinations 6 – 12, and math vocabulary — digit, double digit, dozen, and number words.
Science:
Study of winter animals: the ones who adapt ‘make-doers’, the ‘sleepers’, hibernation, and the ‘movers’, migration. As we study animals, their habitats, and physical geography it will prepare us for our school fair land form project.
*Parent help will be needed for this project. Let me know if you can come in or help with supplies.
Social Studies:
Martin Luther King Jr. will be discussed along with an activity to promote a better understanding of his message.
Health:
Discussion and practice for preventing the spread of germs by thoroughly washing our hands, covering when coughing, and sneezing.

Have a great week!

Carol Brown  🙂
