Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Here we go with a shortened week! I want to thank everyone who was able to come and help on Friday for Primary Centers. Everything went well and was fun for all. We cannot do it without you!

EVENTS TO WATCH FOR:

100 Day is coming soon! It is next Wednesday, January 25. Homework this week will be to collect 100 small items (things that you can find easily; paper clips, plastic bread ties, cotton balls, etc) and group in snack bags by 5s, 10s,  20s, or 25s. More information is coming home with this week’s homework.

Catholic Schools Week is coming soon….next Friday is the ‘kick off” which means Parent’s Day! You are invited to spend time in our class learning along with your child. If you cannot make it, be sure to have someone represent you in class or Mass. In case you cannot attend, please ask Grandparent’s, God parents, older siblings, family friends to represent you. Please be sure to discuss this with your child.  It is difficult for our young learners when someone is not here for them.

ACADEMICS:

We will review Jesus’ baptism and read about the Wedding Feast. We did not have time to work on the Good Shepherd last week. That is on the agenda for this week.

ELA follows the usual pattern of Reading Workshop using our super powers and strategies to help us read. Phonics continues with Words their Way. Our main focus at this time is sounding out simple CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words, reading sight words, retelling story, and tracking as we read. We are working a bit on spelling sight words. Testing this week on all 25 words from lists 1-5. Writing workshop continues with writing to inform.

Math- decomposing 1-10 to understand number combinations to 10, place value on the number grid, a short review on probability- we use terms (possible, impossible, certain, likely, or unlikely) when discussing and questioning during the day in all subject areas.

Science – animals and our five senses

Social studies review MLK and his message of equality. Mapping skills – we will map our bedrooms!

If you have any question- feel free to contact me!

Have a blessed week!

Mrs. Carol Brown
