Dear Kindergarten Families,

I hope all enjoyed this nice warm January weekend! We had a great time in Goleta at the Coronado preserve. Click this  “link” to Ellwood grove — your children would enjoy visiting again.

There have been several questions in regards to sight words. I feel we need to be able to spell the 18 words in our reading series. For this reason we are spelling these sight words in class–in the form of games, spelling a loud, and on paper. We will learn number words one through twenty by sight, calendar words, (days and months) before we go on with new sight words. This will help their writing skills and prepare them for first grade. We are writing many sight word sentences in our journals this month.  Please continue to read nightly to promote literacy and ask questions as you read to help with comprehension. The sound of short vowel /i/ will start this week and the  “it” family words.

Monday, Mr. Doswell will bring a “Music Van”, Progress Reports will come home on Tuesday.   Noon dismissal on Friday.

Sunday, January 30 begins Catholic Schools Week. Please come and visit our school for Open House @ 12:00 to 2:00 –following with an afternoon Mass .

Tuesday, February 1 will be Student Appreciation Day celebrated with hot lunch provided by Mrs. Benner and free dress (no $$)  for the students.

Friday, February 4 is Parent Appreciation Day and noon dismissal–come to Mass and visit our classroom with your student. This is a very special and important time for you to be at school with your child-please mark your calendars!

Have a great week–any questions/ or concerns

please feel free to send me an email kindergarten@sacredheartschoolventura.org

Thank you for your children
