Dear Kindergarten Parents,

As we begin another week in January we have two more birthdays to celebrate! Carlos had his birthday last Wednesday, we will catch up and acknowledge his birthday this week. Elizabeth will be six on Thursday, she will be wearing her birthday crown this week as well.

Primary Centers is on Friday at 9:30-11:30. Thank all parents who have helped prepare the craft and  for the wonderful response to come in and assist the children. I will be out that day, for a WCEA/WASC visit at a Catholic school in North Hills. Your children will be in good hands, Mrs. Vazquez will substitute on this half day of school.

Monday, January 16 there is no school for Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. This week his message will have our class looking at how we treat people and show  respect for others. A craft will represent his message. We will be discussing and writing in our own words what we learn from his famous speech.

Sight words will be coming home on Friday with homework. Please practice these words with your child daily. Remember sight words are not sounded out, as word families, they are words you know by sight. The sight word envelope will need to be returned each week in the homework folder. Our math lessons have us comparing and identfying numbers 6-12, as we begin Chapter 4.  Vocabulary for this chapter is digit, dozen, number pattern, more than and less than.

As we continue to learn how animals survive in the winter months, we are watching  5 different bears via 3 web cams in Minnesota. This unit will also include the changes in people and plants during the winter months.

February 9, we are having our first on campus science outreach program. Cost is $7.00 per student. Look for payment envelopes coming home this week. This is an 80 minute program is called “Hey, Little Ant.” Your children will wear lab coats, learn hands on about several insects, and chart the information. Should be great.

This is all for now!

Mrs. Carol Brown
