Dear Kindergarten Parents,

This week the Palmisano contest winners will be announced.  Our students at Sacred Heart submit an essay to the Palmisano Family. They will choose three winners; one from each grade level (primary, intermediate, and middle school).  All kindergarten students wrote sentences about the importance of SLEs in their relationship with others and doing their best in school. It was quite difficult choosing the five finalists in our class. In the running with 1st and 2nd grade are: Nathaniel, Hope, Ashleigh, Gianna, and Martina.  We are keeping our fingers crossed….until Tuesday.

We will prepare for Palm Sunday in class, continue to reflect on forgiveness, and making good choices like Jesus (SLE A. 4) as we help others at home, in school and in the world. (SLE A.3). This Wednesday at 2:00 Stations of the Cross-please come join us if your schedule permits.

On Ash Wednesday we started corn and cucumber seeds. At this point they have been planted in the beds in our backyard. Measuring and recording the growth in our outdoor journals will be a component of math and science this week. We’ll see how much a seed can grow during the 40 days of Lent.

Common Core math centers will continue through the remainder of the year. This week we start counting coins, learning to count money. Please have your child count coins at home,  it really helps to reinforce this skill. In class, we count with pennies, nickels, and dimes. Knowing the value of coins is confusing as we learn to add money.

Reading comprehension strategy: distinguishing fantasy/ realism and to listening for details -beginning, middle, and end of each story. Please continue to work daily on sight words at home. It is good practice to note/list sight words as you read together. Additional sight word practice includes color words and number words- zero to twenty. Word families focus on short vowels /a/, /i/, and /o/.

Monday, begins the third trimester of school.

Wednesday is a free dress, please send in $1.00 donation to support our mission efforts.

Noon dismissal on Friday!

God Bless your families,

Mrs. Carol Brown
