Academics:
Lent offers us time to grow spiritually and to celebrate our values. In our class, we are discussing fasting, praying, and almsgiving during this season of Lent. We will be working on kindness. Kindness will bloom as we add petals to flowers each time a students shows an act of kindness to others. This began in our religion book and will continue daily on charts in class.
Our reading strategy will consist of organizing and summarizing and cause and effect. Short vowel “i” and the “it” and “ig” families. Initial consonants,  /d/ and /z/, their sounds with corresponding short stories, and penmanship will be the focus this week. We have really enjoyed measurement concepts, and will continue to sprinkle in a measurement component to our daily centers. As we continue with this chapter we will be identifying and counting pennies, nickels, and dimes. Please continue to count coins at home to reinforce counting money.
A look at insects and animals as they begin their life cycles to grow and change with the spring season. Natural resources, namely water as we reflect on keeping bodies of water rivers and streams clean. Activities from our health workbook as we continue through the Food Pyramid and healthy food choices.
Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
