Dear Kindergarten Parents and Families,

I am hoping you heard all about our outreach program, Ladybug Lady and her Creepy Crawly Friends. She came in costume, used puppets, and gave us lots of information on many kinds of  insects. She did a great job and will return in April to teach us about marine life as Marla the Mermaid.

This week’s events:

School Fair on Wednesday evening 6:30 to 8:00. You cannot miss this evening!  Each grade level has different projects-the students work very hard preparing for this annual event.

Primary Centers on Friday, 9:30 to 11:30 we need a few more parents to sign up.

Noon dismissal for Friday as teachers have a meeting.

Our Academics:

Hands are Good. God gave us hands to do good things. Our lesson and discussion will be ‘how we use our hands to care and help others’. An activity will follow this chapter.

Reading strategy for comprehension is to discuss beginning, middle, and end of stories. Noting characters and settings helps to clarify and understand story and compare to real life events. New letter focus will be sound of /f/. Short vowel sound of /i/. Correct letter formation will be a part of our daily centers along with words that begin like Fifi Fish.

Math chapter 6 was previewed last week. It is comprised of calendar and telling time to the hour.  Note the days of the week listed in homework. It would be helpful to print and paste words on file cards to use for ordering days at home. We have a set in class for each table. This skill seems easy, but many students are struggling with the order of the weekdays. Months of the year is next!

Science continues with land-form project and Bear Study. Next week your children will take part in two 30 minute videoconferencing programs in our computer lab. The lesson is on Tuesday is Monarchs and mammals on Wednesday. The California State park rangers put on this free program. Click on ‘ports’ for more information:  PORTS

Social Studies has us looking at community – our families, neighborhoods, schools, church, and occupations. This ties in well with our religion focus.

Enjoy your week! Hope to see everyone on Wednesday evening.
