Dear Parents of Incoming Fourth Graders,

I am very much looking forward to getting to know all of you as I teach your children next year.

I have spoken to the students about the importance of continuing to read over the summer.  Below are a few websites that give suggestions for children’s books and the “usual” grade levels.  I would like each student to read at least 4 books (100 pages plus) this summer.  I am attaching a reading log and would like it filled out and returned to me the first day of school.  Each child is required to write a book report for ONE of the books he or she has read.  This report is due the first day of school and will be the first recored grade for reading in fourth grade.  Thank you for your help with this assignment.

Each student is also required to know his or her multiplication facts through the 10’s by the first day of school.  I am enclosing a timed test.  Please copy this and give it to your child periodically over the summer.  The students need to be able to fill it in correctly in UNDER three minutes.  I will give a timed quiz the first week of school.  This will be the first recorded score for fourth grade math.  Lakeshore Learning store in Ventura has some wonderful practice books available.

Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have.

Have a great summer!

Mrs. Sharon Redmond
