Dear Second Grade Parents,

Hope the long weekend was an enjoyable one. This week will be a short week with lots to do.

Thank you to the room moms  & parent volunteers for our fabulous Valentine’s celebration. The children enjoyed every minute.   Thank you for all the Valentine treats and good wishes.

SAVE THE DATE:  First Reconciliation for your second grader will be on Wednesday, March  19th at 1:00 P.M.   Parents (only), hope you can join us in the church for this sacramental celebration. Parents are invited (and encouraged) to go to confession  as well. There will be a celebration following the church service.  Godparents or sponsors for this sacrament and First Holy Communion are not required.

Take A LOOK at our Week:

FLAT PERSON PROJECT:  Last Thursday, I sent home an envelope with all the correspondence that has been collected throughout the last few months.   Just a reminder that as much mail as possible needs to be neatly displayed on the board. Then any leftovers can be mounted in a thin binder. Thank you for your guidance with this. This completed project can come to school on Feb. 25th. School Fair is Wednesday, Feb. 26th from 6:30-7:45 pm.  You will need to purchase a presentation board and cut it in half.   If you need to have an idea of what size, please stop by the classroom to see a sample.

Please contact your child’s flat person if he/she has not returned them yet.  The letters were sent mid January so we can have all the flat students back by Feb. 7th.

Homework:  No Fluency or Reading Log this week. This will allow time to start your flat person project.  The children will only have 2o minutes of IXL on any addition and/or subtraction section and a spelling test on Friday.

A copy of The Act of Contrition was sent a few weeks ago to memorize.  I will be checking periodically to see if the prayer has been memorized.  We continue to practice in the classroom.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Reading:  We will begin our new story “Ants”.  Strategy Focus:  questioning. Question strategy means asking an interesting question about important information you have read.    Our comprehension skill focus is text organization.  We will identify details for the main idea.
