Dear Second Grade Families,

I hope you enjoyed this three-day weekend with your family.  We have a great week filled with new activities added to our daily routine and some fun on Friday.  I am looking forward to meeting grandparents or special guests this Friday.

Grandparents or special guests may meet our second graders in church at 8:20.  Grandparents are invited to Biederman Hall after mass for a quick snack.  Grandparents will be invited into the classrooms after recess until 11:40.  Please look for us in church, we sit on the right side of the church if you come in from the main entrance.

Also, I am looking for 5 volunteers for Primary Centers on September 19th.  Please send me an email if you are able to attend primary centers on September 19th from 10:00-12:00.  This is a fun way to earn some service hours.

Here’s a look at our week…

Tuesday and Thursday:  P.E.

Thursday:  Return library books

Friday:  Grandparents Day!!!

You will be getting your child’s work on Wednesday.  Please look through your child’s workpacket and sign the paper inside their folder.  Return the folder the following day.

Reading Log & Fluency, Parent Note regarding Fluency(Click on each word to print homework)

Homework is due every Monday.  Please  make sure your child has their homework folder with them at all times.  I will occasionally send things home in their homework folder. I do check planners daily so please make sure they are signed everyday.  I want the students to make it a habit to show you their planner.  Our second graders are becoming responsible for their work.

Reading Log Homework: Our trimester one reading log does not require students to write a sentence about their reading.  I am only expecting them to write the title and author of the book and evaluate the book.

Fluency: This week we will begin our Fluency!!!!  Please read the directions to this homework carefully.  Each week your child will have a new fluency with great parent tips. This week I sent home the fluency homework but beginning next week you will have to print it out.  All papers must be done in pencil and stapled together so it may be turned in on Monday.   If you have any questions, please send me an email.

IXL: Remember your child is required to complete 20 minutes a week.  Work on E.4 & P.3. on IXL If your child completes E.4 in less than 20 minutes, please continue with P.3.  E.4 and P.3 should take about 20 minutes.  Remember to choose other areas if your child completes the assigned sections before the 20 minutes.

Study Spelling: There is NO spelling to study this week since we have a short week.

RELIGION:  God is the Giver of Gifts & Jesus is God’ Best Gift

LANGUAGE ARTS:

We begin the story “Dragon Gets By.”  We will focus on summarizing a story.  We will be working on comprehension and fluency.  We will continue writing in our journals and prepare ourselves for writer’s workshop.
