Dearest Second Grade Families,

It was such a blessing to see everyone at Reconciliation.  I hope you cherished the moment as I did with your children.  I am truly blessed to have such a great group of kids. We are preparing for our First Communion.  Look out for a letter on Wednesday regarding Frequently Asked Questions for First Communion.

Report Cards are going home tomorrow.  If you have any questions, please send me an email.

Extra Reading for tickets continues.  March 31st will be our last day to give out tickets.  So remember to READ, READ, READ!

Homework: NO IXL THIS WEEK…   I sent home a unit 5 review.  We will be taking our Math Test on Wednesday. This will help them review shapes and math concepts.

Fluency and Reading Log

RELIGION: Stations of the Cross on Monday at 2:00; We will begin preparing for our First Communion.  Unit 4  Jesus Gives Us the Gift of Himself.   Vocabulary:  Holy Communion, Living Bread, and Bread of Life.

READING: Our new story this week is “Brothers and Sisters”. We will read for fluency and comprehension.  Our comprehension focus this week will be to evaluate.

WRITING:  We will continue working on our persuasive writing.  Next week, we will choose a persuasive to begin editing.

SPELLING: Unit 26,  contraction words such as didn’t, can’t, isn’t.  Our spelling test is on Friday (full day).  Have your child visit spellingcity.com to practice the spelling words with some games.

MATH: Adding and subtracting facts to 20;  double digit.  We continue working on 2-D & 3-D shapes with vocabulary words being quadrilateral, vertices, edges and faces.  We are also working on parallel lines, line segments, polygons and quadrilaterals.   We will take our unit 5 test on Wednesday.  We will begin our Unit 6 by Thursday. J

SCIENCE: Magnets will be continued during this week. We are having so much fun with magnets. Ask your child what they did with magnets last week in our lab.  Don’t forget to ask them on Thursday, too!

Social Studies: Scientists and Inventors; Ask your child about Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington Carver, Carlos Finlay, and Margaret Knight.  They are fascinated by the 12 year old who invented a machine to make paper grocery bags.
