Dear Second Grade Families,

We have a short week as we begin our week on a Tuesday!   Look for First Communion Pictures in your Wednesday folder.

IN THE CLASSROOM…

HOMEWORK:  Reading Log and Unit Review Math Worksheet (sent home with your child)…We will take our Unit 7 Math test on Friday.  You will notice Mode and Median on the review page.  Mode and Median has been difficult for our class to master. We will continue reviewing Mode and Median this week until the students understand concept. Please help in this area.

FIELDTRIP COMING SOON:  I sent a permission slip on Thursday with your child.  If you need another copy please send me a note in your child’s planner or email.

We will take our field trip to Underwood Farms on Monday, June 2nd.

We will leave at 8:30 a.m.  and return to school by 2:00 p.m.

Attire:  Students must wear school polo shirt with jeans/shorts.  They may bring a cap to wear.

Lunch:  Please send your child with a sack lunch.  We will have our snack and lunch at Underwood Farms.  If you ordered lunch, you still have time to cancel your order. 🙂

We will be out in the gorgeous sunshine so remember to apply sunblock on your child.

RELIGION: Loving God and others by making good choices and God’s Gift of Self.   We did not complete our Test last week so we will have our last Religion test on Thursday.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  rhyming; ABC order; punctuation and grammar;

The children are doing great with their cursive.  We will finish up the lower case letter within this week  and next (p, q, v, x, z, r, s).  We will begin capital letters (caps are easier than lowercase) as soon as we are done with lowercase letters.

READING: We will finish up with “The Art Lesson” by Tomie DePaola.  We will continue reading Tomie DePaola books this week along with phonics library books to reinforce fluency and comprehension.

SPELLING:  Unit 33:  y with a long e sound like in happy

Writing:  Responding to Big Anthony by Tomie DePaola

MATH: Adding and subtracting facts to 20; Addition and subtraction with 3 digit numbers.  We will continue reviewing median and mode.  We will conclude chapter 7 in Everyday Math with a test on Friday. Chapter 8 will begin before Friday.

Science:  Fossils/Rocks
