Dear Second Grade Families,

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! A reminder that we have a full day of school on Friday.    We continue receiving information about different parts of our country; thanks to all the flat host families. We will soon be sending Thanksgiving cards to our hosts.  Be sure to contact the host family if your child has not received any mail.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK… we will continue with Jomari this week.

HOMEWORK :    Reading Log, Common Core Homework…There will be no fluency homework this week.

HERE’S A BRIEF UPDATE OF THIS WEEK’S ACADEMICS…

RELIGION:  We will be thanking God for all our blessings.  We will begin Chapter 7:  We Give Love to Others through kindness, respect, honesty and truthfulness.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Reading:  We will begin “A Trip to the Firehouse”, focusing on different texts for different purposes: informational writing to present and explain real things, people and events.

Spelling/grammar:  More long a words (ai,ay), same beginning sounds, word clues, word meanings, dictionary work, sentence writing, ABC order,Dictionary work, ABC order to the third letter, common/proper nouns

This week we will be on Unit 11 for spelling.  We are working with words ending in sk, ck, ake,  and oke,  This week and next week are short weeks therefore we will take our spelling test next Tuesday.  Students have extra time to practice words. 🙂  Remember go onto spellingcity.com to practice your words.

MATH: greater and less than, word problems, skip counting, odds and evens, math “fast” facts to 20

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Landforms

SCIENCE: We are ending our unit this week on plant & animal life cycle.   We will take the end of the unit test on Thursday.  We are looking forward to beginning our new unit next wee on Motion and Force.
