Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Here we are in the month of October!  Pumpkin sales are happening this week.

We are beginning our eighth week of school, time to see how your children are doing. On that note, Progress Reports are coming home tomorrow, Oct. 2. Please read and review your child’s progress, return signed Progress Report by Monday, October 9.

This Friday is a noon dismissal.

Next Monday is our first off campus field trip. We will walk to the Fire Station with Fire Fighter Thom Hoffman. Look for permission slips coming home on Tuesday. All students    must have a signed permission slip to participate.

Academics:

Social Studies lessons consist of rules at school and in our community. Our field trip will help us to understand community involvement and how   people help others through their occupations.

Our Religion focus continues with stories from the Old Testament in our Children’s Bible.  Our Family Life series – sharing is reinforced as an important part of our daily life at home and in school.

Language Arts we continue to practice our printing, identifying alphabet sounds, vowels and consonants. Rhyming words as well as naming and describing words as write simple sentences. Sight words will be coming home this week as a component of homework. We read for comprehension as we note details and parts of story.

Math: we will work on identifying patterns by color, size and geometric shapes. Help your child find patterns at home and put things in a AB or ABC pattern form. Your child will begin to recognize patterns as they count and order objects; while doing this they are fine tuning their mathematics skills.

Science finds us experimenting with seeds. Our vegetables have sprouted and are up and growing. A new batch of caterpillars are munching on the last of the milkweed. We will  graciously accept milkweed plants. This is a service hour opportunity. Thank you parents who have purchased this food source for the Monarchs so they can complete their life cycle.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Carol Brown
