Dear Kindergarten Families,

Happy Columbus Day Monday! We have been working hard even in this very warm weather. I am proud of what your children are accomplishing in our class. After a week of using the Book It app for reading minutes – it looks as most have been able to download and use this reading tracker. Keep reading this week – on Thursday we will read the non-fiction reports in class- I am not assigning math this week- we will catch up next week.

<<Please return progress reports – they are due today!>>

<<Look for the Saint’s form in your child’s gold folder >>  (Saint Cecilia has already been chosen) –

<<Primary Centers on Friday with a noon dismissal.>>

Our academic week:

As we encounter God’s presence within us…we pray and know that talking to God is good. This is from Chapter 6 in our text. Weekly readings from the Children’s Bible helps us understand the Bible is the book of God’s love. SLE A.2 Pray everyday and go to Mass.

ELA- This week we will focus on letter /Mm/ as a beginning sound and looking for that sound at the end of some words such as drum. Our strategy focus for read aloud stories and in reading groups is to summarize, to retell in our own words; comprehension: inferences and making predictions.  Three days a week we read in small groups, work with sight words, and story comprehension. Our morning work -understanding sentence structure – using capital letter for beginning a sentence and ending punctuation.  Weekly work: writer’s workshop and sorting pictures for spelling comprehension.

EM- 2.9* reinforcing the meaning of numbers 0-10 using a number board; 2.10* introducing teen numbers with counting  games; working towards learning  number words 0-10 then moving on to teen number words.

*Parents are encouraged to follow along in everyday math online, by using the login info on your child’s homework folder. Click here to login in to the EM site

Science – season of fall, animals, and reading about worms – next week we build a wormery -to watch worms work the soil we must wait for cooler weather.

Social Studies- Columbus Day and a craft. Movement – ways of travel long ago and mapping Columbus’ route to the New World.

That should take us through the week!

Any questions of comments – feel free to contact me.

Blessings for your little saints!

Mrs. Carol Brown
