Welcome to Parent Conferences Week!  I look forward to meeting with all of you.  We will have three short days, which will impact the amount of work we cover this week. Progress reports go home on Tuesday and conferences begin on Wednesday. The reports look much different from previous years; students are being assessed on their progress towards meeting grade level standards, using a scale of 1 to 4. We can discuss this further at parent conferences!

We continue to collect money for donuts; last day for preorders is next Monday the 15th.

This week the fourth graders will be completing Reading logs, due next Monday, but no ixL Math will be assigned.

In Spelling we continue our study of Unit 11 words.  Students are writing sentences using all 20 words, and this assignment is due on Wednesday, along with their word pictures, begun last week.  The test will be on Thursday.

In Grammar we continue our study of verbs.

In Vocabulary we are studying the Unit 7 words.  The quiz will be on Thursday and the test on Friday.

In Math last week we focused upon elapsed time problems; this week we will finish our World Tour activity, learning about the country of Egypt and how to measure distances using map scales.

Our main focus in Religion class continues to be the season of Advent and the coming season of Christmas.

We continue chapter three in Social Studies, learning about the early Spanish explorers.

We continue our study of food webs, chapter 3 in Science.

Remember that the vocabulary words for both Science and Social Studies chapters can be found on spelling city.com.  Just go to the teacher page to access these and other lists (spelling, vocabulary, etc.)

In Reading groups, we continue discussions and activities related to our books.

Have a good week!

Mrs. Dwyer
