Week of December 5-9, 2011

Dear Second Grade Families,

Thank you to all our wonderful primary centers moms and grandma. You make our activities go smoothly and fun.

These will be very busy weeks for all primary grades. Second Graders are practicing very hard for the Christmas program (Wednesday, December 14th, 7:00 pm). You can help your child learn the words to the songs.  A costuming letter should be coming home SOON. Our last day before vacation will be Friday, December 16th. Dismissal will be at 12:00. School will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

TEDDY BEAR DAY will be this Tuesday, December 6th.

A CHRISTMAS coloring contest will be held this year. The projects will be done in class.

CONFERENCES will be this week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Dismissal for these days will be 11:30.

FLAT PERSON UPDATE: We will be writing our  Christmas letters and cards to our Flat Person hosts (check with your child about receiving mail. You may need to make a reminder phone call) and cards for our 7th grade buddies.

HERE’S A QUICK LOOK AT OUR WEEK AND WHAT HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH:

RELIGION: 2nd week of Advent!!!!! The feasts of St. Nicholas (Tuesday, December 6) the Immaculate Conception of Mary (Thursday, December 8), St. Juan Diego (Friday, December 9), Our Lady of Guadalupe  (Monday, December 12); loving others and getting our hearts ready for Christmas.

READING: Reading for comprehension and fluency; finishing up the section on “A Trip to the Firehouse”: special Christmas stories.

SPELLING: more ‘long e’ words in spelling; Dictionary work (guide words);

LANGUAGE ARTS: creative writing; poetry; and language arts of the season.

MATH: Subtraction and addition facts to 20; Place value; comparing 2 digit numbers; ordering 2 digit numbers; rounding to the nearest 10; problem solving.
