It was wonderful seeing so many of you at Back to School night. If you are still unsure about anything please send me an email! I hope many of you will be joining us on Sunday at the Sacred Heart Church 50th anniversary celebration. Mass will be celebrated at 11:15, with the festivities beginning right after that.  A couple of reminders:

  • Students should bring water (no sports drinks) to drink during the day when needed. They may have sports drinks at recess and lunch recess only.
  • If you would like to donate anything to the class, please check with me first.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We continue Unit One, focusing upon our relationship with Jesus, who is the Way to the Father. We are also making posters celebrating the 50th year of our church.

Math: We continue our study of geometric constructions. This week students need to complete ixL Math skills W 4, W 5 and Z 1.

Reading Workshop: Students are to read every night at home, at least 20-30 minutes. They will be bringing their book bags home every day, and at times will have extra reading homework, which I will alert you to via email. Please initial the reading log for any reading that was done at home. Students will use a new reading log each week. Click here for a copy of the reading log. reading log

Reading Fluency: Students should complete fluency homework #2. I would like them to do the work on the back, including writing a short summary of the article. This will be due next Tuesday.

Writer’s Workshop: We have begun our first unit, in which we will be writing a piece of realistic fiction. At this point we are generating ideas for stories.

Spelling: We are learning the words in Unit two, and there will be a test on Friday. The words are written in the planner, and we are working on the book pages in class each day.

Vocabulary: We continue Unit One, working on the book pages. Students have index cards to study from; the test on these words will be on Friday.

Grammar: We continue our study of sentences, focusing on complete subjects and predicates.

Social Studies: Our first weekly magazines arrived last week, so we have begun reading issue #1, learning general facts about California.

Science: Our first chapter focuses on the living and nonliving components of ecosystems.

Thanking you for your support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
