The season of Lent begins this week with Ash Wednesday. Please join us if you can at the 8:30 Mass. Students will exchange valentines in class on Wednesday afternoon; a class list was given to the students last week. Friday is a half day, and next Monday is a free day, as we celebrate President’s Day. Progress reports will be coming home tomorrow; please sign and return them by this Friday.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

HOMEWORK (due next Tuesday): Students will be working on the following ixL skills: Math D 12 and D 13 and Language F 1. We are doing fluency #22, and students should be reading non-fiction selections for 20-30 minutes per night. Students should complete the Math Boxes on pages 116 and 117 by Friday.

DAILY WORK

Religion: We will have a test on Unit 3 tomorrow; students already have the study sheet. Click here for a copy of the study sheet.  unit three study sheet  If you haven’t sent in matches for our Lenten art project, please do so as soon as possible.

Math: We continue work on Unit 5, with multiplication being the main focus. We continue to drill on basic multiplication facts as well.

Reading Workshop: This week students will be presenting their posters and reports on a variety of “extreme weather” topics. We are taking a short break to read fiction of our choice; next week we begin a unit on reading biographies.

Writing Workshop: We are recalling small moments that illustrate the reasons for our stated opinions, and adding these to our essay plans.

Spelling: We are working on Unit 21; the test will be on Friday.

Vocabulary: We continue our work on unit 10 today; the test will be on Thursday. Students should be using their index cards to help review for the test. They can also go to sadlierconnect.com to review online via games and practice tests.

Grammar: This week we continue our study of adjectives.

Science: We have begun our study of earthquakes and volcanoes.

Social Studies: We are learning about the presidios and pueblos, which were established at the same time as the missions. Students should be gathering information for their mission posters; we will work on those the first week in March, in preparation for the School Fair, to be held on March 14th. All mission projects (models and scrapbooks) are due on that day.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
