We continue to hope for cooler weather; we are doing our best to stay focused, but it has been very challenging! Please send lots of water with your child!

If you haven’t returned the progress report, please do so this week.  If you have not been signing your child’s planner every night, please do so.

Fourth graders are learning how to play the recorder and should be practicing at home. On Wednesday Mr. Hinojosa will be doing individual assessments of the first three notes he has taught, so let’s practice!

What we are working on this week:

Religion: We are learning about seeking forgiveness and developing a strong conscience.

Math: Students should complete ixL Math skills C1, C3 and C4 by next Monday. In class we will begin Unit 3, which focus upon multiplication, division, number sentences and pre-algebraic concepts.

Spelling: This week we are working on Unit 8. The book pages should be done by Friday, and we will have the test on Friday.

Grammar: We will take the second part of the Unit One test tomorrow; it focuses on compound and complex sentences, as well as fragments and run-on sentences. If you haven’t done so already, please set up an account for your child at grammarworkshop.com, so they can practice what we are learning in class. All of these concepts are also being reinforced as we work on our realistic fiction stories in Writer’s Workshop. We continue to write and begin to edit the scenes we have written.

Vocabulary: We continue our study of Unit 7 words; the test will be this Thursday, with a practice test on Wednesday.

Reading: Fluency homework #7 should be completed by next Monday. Students should answer the seven questions and also write a short summary. Reading Logs will be due next Monday as well. You can access the form here. Reading log #1  We continue reading our literature selections in reading groups.

Social Studies: We begin reading issue four, which focuses upon California’s climate and natural resources, and reviews previously taught map skills.

Science: We will have a test in Science on Thursday. It will cover chapter 1 concepts, and I am sending home a study sheet (green paper!).  You can access the study sheet here. Science chp one study sheet  Students may also bring home a textbook to review.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
