Dear Third Grade Families,

I am pleased to report that as of last Thursday we are all done with ITBS testing for the 2010-2011 academic year! All of our students deserve a big pat on the back for their effort and endurance.

This Wednesday will be our second Free Dress day of the year. There is no specific theme. Rather, students may dress as they please so long as they are in compliance with the Free Dress section of the Sacred Heart School dress code. If your child plans to participate, remember to bring $1.

This is a week of new beginnings for the third grade. First, we will begin Unit II in our Religion studies where we will reaffirm the belief that God keeps his promises to us. In Math, we will be wrapping up Chapter 2 (Time, Money and the Calendar) and plan to take the chapter test on Thursday. A review sheet is included in the weekly homework packet. However, although we are officially completing Chapter 2 this week, keep in mind that we will continuously revisit time, money and the calendar throughout the year.  In Language Arts, we will resume small group reading this week and begin Theme 2 in our Literature series. We will also begin Unit II in our Spelling books focusing on a variety of “Short and Long Vowel” words. In Science, we will continue with the life science strand and begin to look further in depth into aquatic habitats in preparation for our November trip to the Sea Center. Finally, we will resume our study of communities in Social Studies.

Please remind your child to bring his/her library books on Wednesday so that he/she may turn them in and check out new reading.

Looking ahead, NEXT Wednesday (Oct. 19th) our first set of Progress Reports are scheduled to go home.
