Dear Second Grade Families,
This week is JOGATHON!  Be ready for some fun! Friday is also an early dismissal day at 12.00 noon.
We are listening to poems in our classroom. Some second graders have indicated a desire to participate in the speech contest. Only 5 from each grade will be selected to present his/her poem before the panel of judges on Monday. It is a very tough decision as there are many great ones.
With First Holy Communion (Saturday, May 7) quickly approaching, we will not be going to confession as a class. If your child would like to go to confession or if you think it is necessary, please refer to the Church bulletin and go as a family.

RELIGION:  We are continuing getting ready for Easter by praying the Stations of the Cross and remembering our Lenten promises. We are getting ready for First Holy Communion by studying the Mass. Much of getting ready for First Communion ties into holy week also.  We have been discussing the “first” First Holy Communion that Jesus gave his apostles on Holy Thursday as He shared supper with his friends. We have talked about the words Jesus said that changed the bread and wine into his body and blood and how it is repeated at every Mass as a celebration and remembrance. You can help you child at Mass to pay special attention to this important part.
LANGUAGE ARTS: Reading for fluency and comprehension, drawing conclusions;  “ar” and “or” review as well as “_tion” and “_ture” pronunciations; nouns and pronouns; “er” words in spelling; creative writing; ABC order; Dictionary and Thesaurus work; poetry; more cursive handwriting.
MATH: Adding and subtracting facts to 20; addition with regrouping; intro to subtraction with and without regrouping. Pease continue to help your child with the life skills of telling time and coin recognition and counting those coins.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: Using the land and where our food comes from.
Have a good week. Stay tuned for more information to be coming home with your child.
