On Wednesday we will be taking a walking field trip to the fire station with our kindergarten buddies. Permission slips were sent home last week. On that same day we will be going on a field trip with first grade to the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard; we will be back on campus at noon, so we will NOT miss out on lunch! THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We will be learning about the seventh commandment this week, as well as working on our 10 Commandments booklets. Wednesday is Stations of the Cross at 2 p.m.

Math: We will have a test on Unit 6 on Friday. Students are to do ixL skills Z 2, 3, and 4 this week. This will be due next Monday.

Reading Workshop: I am hopeful that we can keep our enthusiasm for reading going this month! Each child should be reading 20-30 minutes each night; please make sure you sign the log for minutes read at home. Click here for the reading log, which will be due next Wednesday.new reading log

Writer’s Workshop: We continue planning our informational books. Students have chosen topics and are working in teams to gather notes in preparation for writing chapter one, which is about the “bigger topic”.

Language Arts: Students should be practicing their poems for the Speech Contest. Poems will be recited in class next week, but those who would like to may recite their poems this week.

Reading Fluency: It is fluency #30 this week; it will be due next Monday.

Spelling: We are learning the words in Unit 28; the test will be next week, on Wednesday.

Vocabulary: We conclude our study of Unit 15 words; the test will be on Friday.

Grammar: We continue learning about adjective forms.

Social Studies: We are learning about the westward movement, pre-Gold Rush.

Science: We continue learning about earthquakes and volcanoes.
