Dear Second Grade Families,

We had a good start to the school year in second grade. In addition to the introduction to the classroom routines, we had a get together with our seventh grade buddies and then attended Mass together on Friday, as we will do on all Fridays. This week we will be getting together with our school families to introduce the new students to the SHS family fun and let our new eighth grade parents get started on their leadership role.
Our Monday letter for the school year begins today. You can access the letter through the SHS web site. You will receive a note every Monday, (or the first school day of the week). We begin with full days and our other special activities.  P.E., Music, Library, and Computer will begin this week.  For most weeks, Mrs. Danforth will be teaching on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Mrs. Vazquez will be here Thursdays and Fridays.  We will alternate Wednesdays.  If you have concerns or questions, we can be reached on our shared email address, (secondgrade@sacredheartschoolventura.org). We are off and running!!!
HOMEWORK begins this week with nightly reading for 20 minutes and filling out a reading log. This reading log will be due Friday morning. Students are to do the writing. A parent signature is due on the daily planner each day and is due the following morning. More info about homework will be at Back to School Night, Wednesday, August 31.
FLAT PEOPLE information will go home next week at Back to School Night. This is fun, fun, fun!
BIRTHDAYS have begun in August in second grade.  If you would like to bring in a shared treat, (to be celebrated at lunch), we are asking that it be a healthy snack; ex.; veggies, fruit, cheese, crackers, popcorn, muffins, granola bars, yogurt, etc. Please no cakes, cupcakes, ice cream, candy, etc. These are great treats for celebrations outside of school. We will discuss more of this at Back to School Night. If your child’s August birthday happened before the start of school, we will give you a ‘make-up’ date.  Also needed (and very appreciated) are ‘Happy Birthday’ pencils. Please let us know if you can help with this. Thanks.
UNIFORM regulations are in the handbook. Please review the section about shoes. There have already been issues with shoelaces and shoes. Thanks
OOPS…A forgotten school supply item is at least 2 jumbo glue sticks to be brought by each student. Do not put names on them and we will request more as needed. Thanks!
