Dear Second Grade Families,

Thank you for your attendance at conference time. We enjoyed chatting with you about your child. Remember any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child can be sent to our shared e-mail.

These will be a very busy week for all primary grades. Second Graders are practicing very hard for the CHRISTMAS PROGRAM (Wednesday, December 14th, 7:00 pm). A letter went home from Mrs. Lyle describing suggested clothing and time to arrive at school for the performance. We will meet in the glass room of the hall. (6:40) She forgot to add for the shirts that no sports/team shirts or printed tees (no logos or words) be worn. If girls want to wear dresses, short is recommended as there is walking up and down stairs as well as the risers on stage. Our last day before vacation will be Friday, December 16th. Dismissal will be at 12:00. School will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
A CHRISTMAS coloring contest was held this year. The projects were done in class.
We will be writing our letters and card to our Flat Person hosts and cards for our 7th grade buddies. Please check with your child to see if he/she has received flat person mail. Some have received a fair amount and others have received just a few or none at all. The hosts may need a phone call reminder. Also, all mail needs to be sent to school via USPS.

Here’s a look at our academic week and what we hope to accomplish:
RELIGION: 3rd and 4th week of Advent and Christmas; Our Lady of Guadalupe (today); Saint Lucy (our saint of the month) loving others and getting our hearts ready for Christmas.
LANGUAGE ARTS: Reading for comprehension and fluency; special Christmas stories and vocabulary; Spelling Long “o” words, rhyming and Dictionary work (guide words and thesaurus); creative writing; poetry; and language arts of the season. Keep reading over the vacation and checking for fluency.
MATH: Subtraction and addition facts to 20; Rounding to the nearest 10; patterns. Please practice facts over the vacation as well as telling time and counting money.
