Dear Second Grade Families,

Thank you to all our primary center volunteers. You were terrific! You always make our activities successful and fun!

FLAT PEOPLE UPDATE:  Postcards of our area were sent this past week.  As our incoming mail continues, we have enjoyed learning about various places in California as well as in other parts of our country.  Parents please encourage your child’s Flat Person host to continue to send mail, especially pictures and postcards. (These will be needed for the second part of this activity).  We will be sending a letter at the end of this month asking flat second graders to return home.
FREE DRESS:  We will have an opportunity for appropriate free dress this week on Wednesday for $1.00, for Holy Childhood Association

IMPORTANT DATES: First Reconciliation for your second grade student has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 28 at 9:30 in the morning. We hope this will give you enough time to make plans to be with your child for this special event. There will be a small reception afterward. The room parents will be letting you know how you can help with this. First Communion will be Saturday, May 5, at 10:00 am.

HERE’S A QUICK LOOK AT OUR WEEK…
******STUDENT OF THE WEEK…Alexis******
RELIGION:  Jesus teaches us how to give love to others by being kind, respectful, honest, and truthful. Please have a conversation with your child about appropriate movies and tv programs. This is mentioned in our religion book as we study the commandments in preparation for the sacrament of Reconciliation. A copy of the Act of Contrition has been sent home so your child can begin memorizing this prayer.
READING:  We will be finishing up theme 3 in our anthology book with reading stories focusing on fluency and comprehension.
SPELLING: Unit 18 is a review unit with activities for units 13-17 being sent home for homework this week. This will take the place of a test but dictation will still be given using words from these past units as well as every day words.
LANGUAGE ARTS: dictionary work; ABC order; vocabulary development; word families; decoding; creative writing.
MATH: Addition and subtraction facts to 20; most students did very well on their first timed test. We will continue this week. We are beginning 2 digit adding with and without regrouping by adding tens and using a hundreds chart. We will use work mats and blocks to regroup 10 ones as 1 ten.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: Martin Luther King, Jr., citizenship, rocks.

Have a good week,
Second Grade Teachers
