Welcome to spring! Continuing our month-long celebration of Read Across America, this Wednesday will be “Wacky Wednesday”. Students may come dressed in mismatched, “wacky” combinations of clothing. Please sign and return the envelope for your child’s report card if you have not done so already. Friday is a half-day. Next week we will have P.E. on Monday and Tuesday, so students need to remember to come in P.E. clothes on Monday. Music classes will be on Wednesday and Thursday.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We will begin studying the sixth commandment this week. Wednesday is Stations of the Cross at 1 p.m. Please burn your box of matches and send them to school, as I would like to do this Lenten project next week at the latest.

Math: We continue working on dividing numbers by one and two-digit divisors, using the partial quotient method. Students are to do ixL skills E 7, 14 and 18 this week. This will be due next Monday.

Reading Workshop: We are now reading biographies. It is important that students be reading intensely, noting important details about their subject in their composition books. Each child should be reading 20-30 minutes each night; please make sure you sign the log for minutes read at home. Click here for the reading log, which will be due next Monday. new reading log

Writer’s Workshop: We are wrapping up work on our essays. Our next unit will be on informational writing; we will choose a topic from our study of California history and write a “book” about it. Students will be choosing a topic and will start gathering notes this week.

Reading Fluency: It is fluency #28 this week; it will be due next Monday.

Spelling: We are learning the words in Unit 26; the test will be on Friday.

Vocabulary: We continue our study of Unit 14 words; the test will be on Thursday.

Grammar: Our new unit focuses on adjectives.

Social Studies: We move on to Studies Weekly #15, “Rancho Life”, which fits in nicely with our trip to the Olivas Adobe, site of a large rancho in the 1800s.

Science: We conclude our study of rocks and minerals; there will be a test on chapter 5 on Thursday. Students have notes, which they should study from, and they can also use the textbook and the vocabulary games on spellingcity.com to prepare for the test.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
