THE WEEK AHEAD:

There is much going on this week. The eighth graders are promoting cookie sales (a fundraiser for our mission project), which will be delivered this Friday the 17th. The cost is $1 per cookie, and Wednesday the 15th is the last day to order cookies. We will have another free dress fundraiser this Wednesday; the cost is $1, and like the cookie sales, the proceeds will support the Adopt-a-Family program. Friday is a full day. If you have extra Halloween candy (in plain wrappers), we would love to have it to add to our donations for Adopt-a-Family!

HOMEWORK (all due next Wednesday): Since next week is a short week, I am assigning 2 additional ixL skills, but the work will not be due until next Wednesday. Students should complete Math skills D 29, O 4 and O 5, as well as Language skills D 6 and D 7. Students will be doing Fluency week 13.

DAILY WORK

Religion: We are discussing how to worship God, which is the topic of chapter 7.

Math: We will be finishing Unit 3 this week and should be ready for the test next week.

Reading Workshop: We are wrapping up our work on realistic fiction before the Thanksgiving break; after the holiday, we will begin a unit on reading non-fiction. Students should be reading for 20-30 minutes every night; logs will be collected next Wednesday.

Writing Workshop: Our goal is to finish our realistic fiction stories before Thanksgiving; this week we continue working on revisions and editing.

Spelling: We will be working on Unit 12 (review activities) and Unit 13 (starting on Wednesday); the test on Unit 13 will be next Tuesday.

Vocabulary: We have finished the first six units, so we will be doing a variety of review activities up until Thanksgiving. No more tests before Thanksgiving!

Grammar: We continue work in unit 3, with the focus on Verbs.

Social Studies: Students are presenting reports on their assigned Native American groups; we will have a test on issues 5-9 next Wednesday.

Science: We will have a test on chapter 2 this Thursday. Click here for a copy of the study sheet, which students should have in their homework folders. In addition, to help with test preparation, there are review activities on spellingcity.com. chp 2 study sheet

Thanking you for your continuing support,
