Dear Second Grade Families,

We cannot believe we will be starting November tomorrow!  Wow, time flies when you are having academic FUN!

It is All Saint’s Day tomorrow.  We will be attending mass in the morning.

Friday is our Saint’s Day Parade & noon dismissal.  Your child will come dressed in their saint costume in the morning.  They must wear their uniform underneath their saint costume.

We will be attending a beautiful Mass on Friday.  Please plan on joining us.  Mass will begin at 8:30 a.m.

This is our academic overview for this week:

HOMEWORK:  The kids did such a wonderful job with their new reading logs.  We enjoyed reading their responses.

The children will not have to do their reading log today.  The only homework they will have is writing their spelling words in their planner.  Enjoy the night with your kids!

Please continue working on memorizing 3 simple sentences about their Saint.

Reading: We finished Theme 2 of our reading series.   We will be taking our theme test on Thursday.

We will be reading Fables this week.

Writing: We will continue learning about adding detail to our sentences, identifying command sentences and exclamation marks.

Spelling/Phonics: Unit 10:  We will be looking for spelling patterns  and sounds of nd, ng, nk, nt and mp.

Religion: We will focus on the first great law:  love God.

Key Vocabulary:  commandments, Lord’s Day and Ten Commandments.

Social Studies/Science:  Maps/Animal Life Cycle

Math: Today, we sent an overview for Chapter 2 of math in their homework folders.   Please look over the vocabulary words that we will be using the next few weeks.

Information on your Flat Student: We sent out our first letter to your child’s host family.  Some children have been receiving mail.  Please remind your child’s host family to send a letter to your child.  They really look forward to getting mail after lunch.  If your child receives mail, we will send it home to read then you must return it the following day.

If you have any question about Saint’s Parade, please email us.

God Bless,

The Second Grade Teachers
