Dear Families of Second Graders,
Thank you to all Grandparents and special friends who came to spend the morning with our students. It was nice to see the loving guidance and working together.
FLAT PEOPLE have begun!!! Half of the second graders started last week. The other half will begin this week. We are in the beginning stages of tracing and making sure everyone has a neck, the arms are the same length and same for the legs. How’s the Flat Person host search coming? Please have the host and donation turned in by Friday, September 23, or sooner.
Wednesday, September 14, will be picture day. Students are to wear their uniforms. Money and order forms are due on this day.
Two important notes were sent out Friday from our room moms. One was about the party fund collection and the other has to do with the class roster. Please attend to these as soon as possible to help them in their planning.
Here’s a look at our week…
RELIGION: Jesus shares his life with us; He is the vine, we are the branches; we pray the sign of the Cross; vocabulary, disciple.
LANGUAGE ARTS:  Unit 3 in spelling begins the study of long vowel words with the “vowel-consonant-e” spelling pattern; phonics review will include more short vowels and the “vccv” pattern; vocabulary development; sentence writing; handwriting practice; creative writing; rhyming; dictation; reading for comprehension (fantasy and realism) and fluency as we begin the story “Julius.”
MATH:  We will continue to work on addition facts through12, looking at order property (3+5 is the same as 5+3), counting on, the use of the number line, doubles and doubles plus 1; add 10 and make ten to add. Continue to count money and tell time on an analog clock with your student. These are important life skills.
SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE: Groups and communities/ Plant life cycles
Have a good week,
Mrs. Danforth and Mrs. Vazquez
