Tomorrow I will be sending home another packet of work by the fourth graders; there is much to be proud of!

Tomorrow will be our first art lesson with Ms. Spooner; Wednesday is a free dress ($1 donation for our first trimester mission project); Friday is a half day.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We are learning how God speaks to us through Scripture (chapter 2) and through the Church (chapter 3)

Math: We have started Unit Two, which focuses on data collection, addition and subtraction. Students need to complete ixL Math skills X 5, B 1 and C 1 by next Monday.

Reading Workshop: It is important that your child is reading books that are at or near their reading level. It is also important that they be reading the same book until they finish it; they can read the same book at school and then bring it home in the book bag to continue reading it. An excellent resource for checking on the “a to z” level of a book is the following website: http://bookwizard.scholastic.com/bookwizard/. Not all books are leveled, however. We use a new reading log each week, and I would like parents to sign the reading log for any reading done at home. Click here for a copy of the reading log. reading-log

Reading Fluency: Students should complete fluency homework #5. This will be due next Monday.

Writer’s Workshop: This week we are working on story arcs: we briefly outline/plan the plot of the story; we are doing several story arcs, studying them to see which is the best one. Then we will be ready to draft our stories!

Spelling: We are studying the words in Unit 4; the test will be on Friday.

Vocabulary: We begin our study of Unit 3 words; the test will be next week.

Grammar: We continue our study of sentences, focusing on compound sentences.

Social Studies: Students continue to read issue #2 online (they also have a paper copy) and will take the online test as practice for the quiz we will have on Friday on the first two issues.

Science: We continue learning about land and water ecosystems.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
