This Friday is another half day; we will have our first School-wide Centers, with students from grades three, four and five grouped together for three different activities.

Remember to check out all of the websites your children have access to: sadlierconnect.com (for Vocabulary and Grammar workshop), studiesweekly.com, scholastic.com/sn4, and spelling city.com (for practice in spelling as well as the vocabulary for Science and Social Studies!).

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We are learning how God speaks to us through the Church (chapter 3)

Math: We continue Unit Two, which this week focuses mainly on data collection. Students need to complete ixL Math skills J 1, 2 and 3 by next Monday.

Reading Workshop: Our focus continues to be our characters, which dovetails nicely with our work in Writer’s Workshop. We are developing significant ideas about them, determining their motivations and their challenges and citing evidence on our Post Its. Students should be reading the same book at school and at home, using a new reading log at the start of each week. Please sign the reading log for any reading done at home. Click here for a copy of the reading log. readinglog

Reading Fluency: Students should complete fluency homework #6. This will be due next Monday.

Writer’s Workshop: This week most of us will begin drafting our stories!

Spelling: We are studying the words in Unit 5; the test will be on Friday.

Vocabulary: We continue our study of Unit 3 words from last week; the test will be on Friday.

Grammar: We continue our study of sentences, focusing this week on complex sentences.

Social Studies: Students continue to learn about California; we will be reading issues three and four of Studies Weekly, learning more about the four geographical regions of California.

Science: We continue learning about land and water ecosystems.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
