Dear Parents,                                                     October 24, 2011

This week, our reading strategy is “predict/infer”.  Before reading a story, we look at the cover, the title and the pictures and make educated guesses (or predictions) on what the story will be about.  While reading, we use information learned to conclude (or infer) if our prediction is correct or what will happen next.  The comprehension skill that will help us with this reading strategy is predicting.  Our phonics focus this week is a review of the short sound of /i/ and verb endings –s, -ed, and –ing.  We will also focus on possessive -’s.  Our grammar focus continues to be what makes a sentence a sentence.  This week, our spelling words are from unit 10 – a short vowel review.  We are still in the midst of chapter 3 in math.  This week we will begin to focus on different ways to subtract to/from 10. In religion, we will begin a new chapter on how to pray to God, Our Father and continue to prepare for the Saints Parade.  We are going to wrap up our chapter on animals in science and begin a new chapter on landforms and resources in social studies.

Please remind your child to bring their library book to school on Tuesday so that they may check out a new one.

Water bottle sales continue on Tuesday and Thursday.  Thank you for your support!

Friday is another full day but it will be an exciting one! In preparation for Halloween, we will have temporary tattoos on sale for $1. Students will only be allowed to put on 2 tattoos that day, however more tattoos may be purchased. In addition, we will be having an assembly to showcase our musical talents in the afternoon and finally to end the day we will meet with our SHS family!

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a wonderful week!
